September 19, 2025 (SSNA) — South Sudan International Advocacy for Human Rights Calls on the South Sudanese Civil Society in the Diaspora to hold a rally for peace at the United Nations Headquarters in New York City, New York, United States.
On Tuesday, September 23, 2025, from 10:00 AM to 3:00 PM EST at Dag Hammarskjöld Plaza: 866 2nd Avenue, East Manhattan, New York City, NY (across from the United Nations Headquarters).
South Sudan International Advocacy for Human Rights (SSIAHR) and members of the South Sudanese civil society in the diaspora, alongside community allies and supporters, will gather to rally for peace and call for an end to the ongoing conflict in South Sudan. The rally will also raise awareness about the devastating impact of aerial bombardments on civilians in the Greater Upper Nile and Greater Equatoria regions by the Uganda People’s Defense Force (UPDF) and the South Sudan Defense Force (SSDF), the detention of opposition leader Dr. Riek Machar and seven others, and the worsening humanitarian crisis. This crisis has resulted in internally displaced persons (IDPs) and refugees, many of whom are trapped in swampy flood zones across the region, continuing to endure dire conditions that demand urgent international attention.
“This rally is about amplifying the voices of our people back home who continue to suffer from displacement and insecurity”, Peter Kuel, President, SSIAHR.
We are calling on the global community to stand with South Sudan in its pursuit of lasting peace.
All media outlets are invited to attend, cover the event, and interview participants and organizers.
