Nairobi, February 11, 2026 (SSNA) — The International Rescue Committee (IRC) warns that Sudan is facing one of the world’s largest humanitarian crises, with over 33 million people, around two-thirds of the population, in urgent need of aid.
The ongoing civil war between the Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF) and Rapid Support Forces (RSF), which began in April 2023, has displaced more than 12 million people, caused over 150,000 deaths, and left the country’s healthcare system in collapse, with life-threatening famine and limited access to medical care.
In Darfur, thousands of families fleeing El Fasher for Tawila face extreme danger, while children arriving alone underscore the devastating impact on civilian health and well-being. The IRC describes the situation as “harrowing” and calls for urgent aid.
The IRC urges immediate international support, including increased funding, safe passage for civilians, medical assistance, and diplomatic efforts to prevent further loss of life.
